Description: |
This program will focus on animal husbandry, predator control, sheep breeds, pasture impacts from multi-species grazing, and lamb marketing. The workshop is targeted towards cooperators participating in a USDA-funded Conservation Innovation Grant project in the Wes-Mon-Ty RC&D area that includes Barbour, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker and Upshur counties. Any individuals with an interest in exploring the usefulness of adding sheep to cattle operations are encouraged to attend. The workshop will feature nationally reputed speakers and experts with extensive knowledge and experience in the subject matter. Topics include vegetation effects, fundamentals of sheep husbandry, health and reproduction management, fencing systems, market pooling, etc. A hands-on training program is also scheduled to introduce the novice to husbandry and cultural practices unique to sheep flock management.
